 A heat pump is an energy-efficient HVAC system that transfers heat from one location to another, rather than generating it. In winter, it moves heat from the cooler outdoors into your home for heating; in summer, it reverses the process to move heat from indoors to the outside for cooling. This transfer process makes them more efficient than conventional heating systems, potentially leading to significant energy savings.

 Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2, an updated metric used to measure the cooling efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps. A higher SEER2 rating indicates a more energy-efficient system.  

 A good EER2 rating is one that exceeds the minimum regional standards set by the Department of Energy (DOE) and is generally 12 or higher air conditioners.  

 The HSPF rating indicates how much heat a heat pump provides in relation to the amount of electricity it consumes over a typical heating season. The higher the HSPF rating, the more energy-efficient the heat pump.  High-efficiency models are generally considered to be 9.0 or higher.
